In this blog post you can find inspiration and instructions on how to make your own Christmas decoration with beads and beading wire.
Please allso visit our related blog post: Christmas decorations in copper and gold
First you shape a star, heart or wreath with beading wire. Then you wind beads around the shape. Finally, you tie a pretty organza ribbon on the shaped wire with a bow, so the ornament can hang in the Christmas tree, in the window or can be used as Christmas present decoration. The wreath can be made in all sizes.
These colourful and merry Christmas ornaments are easy to make and a lovely idea for creative pre-Christmassy workshops together with children and grandchildren. You can use all kinds of beads, so fetch all the remaining beads you have and make your very own version.
Alternatively, for easy start you can purchase our DIY Christmas decoration kit.

DIY Wreath with beads and flowers
For this wreath you need the following DIY materials:
- various mixed beads
for example acrylic or resin beads - gold-plated beading wire, 1mm
- gold-plated beading wire, 0.4mm
- organza ribbon
… or a DIY Christmas decoration kit with mixed beads, 2 x gold-plated beading wire and organza ribbon.
For the DIY kit with silver-plated beading wire, please click here.
First, you shape a ring with gold-plated wire with a diameter of 1mm. Close it by winding the wire ends around each other.
Now you take approx. 1mof a new piece of wire which is going to be wound around the ring. In our example we use gold-plated wire with a diameter of 0.4mm. You will need more than 1m but a longer piece of wire would complicate the work.
Coil a piece of the new piece of wire around the ring to fasten it.
String a bead onto the wire. Stop a bit over the ring to leave space for some windings.
Wind the wire by turning the bead. Now the beads ‘hovers’ at a little distance from the ring.
Coil the wire around the ring a few times and string the next bead.
Wind the wire by turning the bead.
Thread a flower and a little bead on the wire and pull them all the way down to the ring.
Then you pull the wire back through the flower.
Coil the wire around the ring again.
After the flower, we have fastened two more beads and a little flower on this example wreath.
Continue attaching beads all around the ring.
When the 0.4mm wire is used up, you simply fasten a new piece of thin wire.
