Hoops with Green Onyx
The choice of small semi-precious stone beads varies but the technique is always the same.
We used the following DIY components to assemble these earrings:
- 1 strand of green onyx beads, 2mm (Click here for our assortment of small gemstone beads.)
- 60cm wire 0.3mm, gilded sterling silver
- 1 pair of hoops, 25mm, gilded sterling silver
First, you cut the wire into two 30cm long pieces. Then, you wind one piece of wire around a hoop - approx. 6 times. Leave the hoop open while you do the windings.
Next, you thread beads on the wire. For one hoop you need 1/2 strand of beads (approx. 20cm).
Now you start wrapping the beaded wire around the hoop.
Continue wrapping until the beaded piece of wire is used up.
Then you thread more beads on the wire.
Continue wrapping.
When the desired amount of beads is wrappd around the hoop, you finish the earing by winding the wire around the hoop as you did in the beginning.
Cut the excess wire. If the cut wire sticks out, press it carefully in with a pair of chain-nose pliers.
Hoops with Pink Cat's Eye Beads
We used the following DIY components to make these earrings:
- 1 strand of cat's eye beads, pink, 2mm
- 60cm wire 0.3mm, gilded sterling silver
- 1 pair of hoops, 25mm, gilded sterling silver
The procedure is the same as described in the first example.
Hoops with Light Green Cat's Eye Beads
We used the following DIY components to make these earrings:
- 1 strand of cat's eye beads, light green, 2mm
- 60cm wire 0.3mm, gilded sterling silver
- 1 pair of hoops, 25mm, gilded sterling silver
The procedure is the same as described in the first example.
Hoops with Gemstone Mix
We used the following DIY components to assemble these earrings:
- 1 strand of mixed semi-precious stone beads, 2mm
- 60cm wire 0.3mm, gilded sterling silver
- 1 pair of hoops, 25mm, gilded sterling silver
The procedure is the same as described in the first example.
Hoops with Lapis Lazuli
For these earrings we used the following DIY components:
- 1 strand of lapis lazuli 2mm (sold out at the moment) or alternatively apatite 2mm
- 1 pair of hoops, 20mm, gilded sterling silver
- 60cm wire 0.3mm, gilded sterling silver
- cable chain, doublé
- cat's eye beads, pink, 2mm
- cat's eye beads, light blue 2mm
- 4 sunstone beads, 3.5mm
- 8 headpins with 1.5mm pad, gilded sterling silver
- 4 jumprings, 3mm, gilded sterling silver
Before you wrap the beads around the hoop, you prepare the chains.
Pull a headpin through the sunstone bead and make a loop with windings (see our DIY guide on How to make a loop).
After that, you fasten the loop to the chain with a 3mm jumpring. In our example, we use a 2cm long chain. Alternatively, you can connect the loop in the headpin directly to the chain before you make the windings.
5 pink cat's eye beads are connected to a piece of chain with a headpin in the same way. The chain is 3cm long.
6 light blue cat's eye beads are threaded on a piece of wire (0.3mm) and fastened to a piece of chain on either side. The chain is 3.5cm long.
(See our blog post Earrings with gemstone bead links for step by step instructions.)
Finally, you thread the beads onto the wire together with the chains (at the intervals you like) and wrap them around the hoop as described in the first example.
